serkan & cecilia
Serkan Gokcesu is renowned for the work he made together with
Özhan Araz, Two young men that for close to eight years were working
and touring together as professional tango teachers and performers
at some of the biggest tango festivals in the world, as well as working
with dance choreography for television and cinema at home in Turkey.
Appreciated for an innovative teaching method, based on the fact that
as being two men they shared the dancing roles equally, and as a result
had acquired a very profound understanding of the dance. Both coming
from the athlete world, being semi-professional sportsmen, helped them
in focusing, both physically and mentally, to always reach higher levels,
constantly developing.
Cecilia Garcia has an impressive dancing background covering
everything from traditional argentine folk dance, contemporary dance,
contact, jazz, to tango. She also has a teaching degree for the piano.
Maybe this combination can explain her outstanding musical and physical
expresión. She is already well travelled, starting touring at the age of
sixteen when she performed in a group working in Italy and France. Later
she has been touring worldwide with various prominent characters of the
Argentine tango scene. Not only has she been working as a performer,
she has also a genuine experience as a tango teacher, Buenos Aires
being her home base.
They want something more intuitive, to see the tango as being a solid trio
playing together: the music being the conductor and leading voice, and
the couple being the interpreters and accompanying instruments. But the
couple does not only interpret the music, but also each other, listening to
what the other has to suggest and in turn suggest something back. No
defined leader nor follower, instead a constant flow of reaction, action
and contra reaction. The base is still tango, but the interpretation and the
expression are new every time.

homer & cristina
Homer and Cristina started their tango obsession long before the met each other.
Each with over 11 years of experience emphasizing a fusion of social tango ideologies, via the 'one tango'
philosophy. As teachers they are committed to creating a positive class environment and try to reduce barriers
that may inhibit students from really finding their own dance! Small epiphanies can & do occur in their students
all the time... It has been said, on more than one occasion, that few dancing couples improvise with such skill,
personality, and fluidity of movement. Married since May 2002 Homer & Cristina continue to explore deeper facets
of their relationship to each other and to tango.
Homer is also a founding member of the non-profit Project Tango organization whose biggest local projects include
the weekly CELLspace alternative milonga and the annual Tango Exchange. His newest obsession is the double bass!
He plays with a ‘student’ tango band called Los Bandacticos and hosts free music jams (locally and on the road).
Cristina is currently recovering from a life altering kidney disease and, beyond her regular ‘tango functions’,
is a student of Yoga and Pilates and spends her off-time reading.

adam & ciko
Adam Hoopengardner excels in many styles of tango. His philosophy of tango is centered on the energy one feels from one's partner, and believes this should inspire the style and movement of the dance. He is confident dancing in open or close embrace and is cherished by followers for his comfortable, clear lead, his creativity, and inspiring musicality. When teaching he is able to transmit his mastery of the complex concepts of tango while retaining his innate humor and humility. He bases his classes on the abilities of his students and is able to help them expand their skill and understanding of the dance.
Adam has worked across the US, Canada, Germany, and Poland teaching workshops and at festivals often returning more than once.
He is based in New York and Berlin. He has performed and worked with some of todays leading ladies of tango including, Cigdem Tanik, Brigitta Winkler, Rebecca Shulman, and Silvina Vals.
Ciko's motivation to pursue tango has been the connection to another soul & body, as well as her own, through a music that inspires her. During her visits to Buenos Aires she focused solely in the dance in its original grounds exploring and studying both traditional and nuevo tango roots which developed the Argentine quality in her dance. She embraced both open and close embrace which allowed the ability to move fluidly between the two and be more dynamic and versatile. Her technique gives her a non-restrictive connection with various dancers. Her dance is defined by its sensuality, creative playfulness, musicality and elasticity.
She emphasizes the importance of a good technique with a comfortable, musical walk over complicated moves. Her goal as a teacher is to bring her studentsÂ’ personality out in their dance by teaching them the music and the concept of countless possibilities the dance offers. She cannot over emphasize the value of being an active follower which makes the dance much more interactive and fun.
She has worked across US and Canada teaching workshops and at festivals. Has worked and performed with powerful leaders such as Adam Hoopengardner, Felipe Martinez, Robin Thomas, Evan Griffiths and Daniel Tuero.

style strongly reflects the traditional roots of tango. He makes his
home in Montreal and for 10 years has participated in its rich and
reputable tango scene. His passion for the dance has also taken him to
Argentina and Europe to study with many inspiring teachers. Bulent has
become well known for his innovative and improvisational approach to

paintings and drawings express vibrant colour, simplicity and lyricism
of line, humor and the human form. His artistic maturity is now

explorations he generously shares his knowledge with students of every
level. As a teacher he stresses the importance of investigating the
structural foundation of tango, making good contact and communicating
clearly, moving smoothly between open and close embrace and developing
musical timing. With a keen grasp of these basic elements the dance
partners can then find the ease and freedom to bring complexity to
their floorcraft and develop their improvisational skills. Bulent likes
to encourage in his students, the sensitivity and confidence needed to
experiment with tango. The dance becomes more than its steps. The dance
becomes creative communication. In addition to teaching Bulent enjoys
dj'ing and hosting regular and popular Milongas in Montreal. The music
is a cutting-edge mix of alternative and traditional tango, the
atmosphere is heartfelt and the dancing is first rate. |

marc hussner
What started as a trip to South America turned into a 2 year adventure in Buenos Aires, where Marc sought to learn everything about tango: the culture, people, music and dance. His immersion into the Argentine culture changed the course of his life and is now the central focus of his career.
2 years later, after starting to DJ out of a simple need for music at an event, tango music now inspires, amazes, and sometimes even drives Marc crazy! His intuitive sense for what simply works, a deep schooling in tango music history, and a never-ending quest for sonic excellence, makes comments like "I couldn't sit down all night; the music was incredible!" pretty common.
Marc was the resident DJ of two weekly milongas in Buenos Aires and currently DJ's two weekly events (one traditional and one alternative) in Philadelphia. He is a sought after DJ in the area, playing regularly at different events in Philadelphia and NYC. |

tatiana balashova
Tatiana Balashova is originally from Moscow, Russia and currently resides in Vancouver,
Canada. Her DJ-ing combines the best traditions of Buenos Aires' milongas with her own
personal flavour, creating a unique musical atmosphere. An experienced tango dancer (7 years),
Tatiana runs a regular milonga in Vancouver (“Magic Tango” / now “Zen Milonga”) which dancers
have described as “truly magic in atmosphere and music”.
“My main focus in DJ-ing is to remain open-minded in terms of re-editing the playlist by
observing the dancers and then interpreting which tanda (and cortina) best fits the moment. DJ-
ing is similar to editing a movie -- each frame can be unique and interesting but combined they
create an organic, unforgettable, and captivating story. I aim to create a positive, relaxed, yet
still dynamic atmosphere so that dancers who dance almost every tanda are inspired to keep on
dancing and newcomers can't wait to get on the dancefloor.”
Tatiana enjoys dj-ing various ratios of traditional and non-traditional music (from 100 to 20%
traditional). She believes neotango, electrotango or alternative music can help build up great
energy if the mood calls for it. Fairly selective with her choice of non-traditional tango music, her
favorite playlist ratio for a milonga is probably 90-70% traditional music.
“I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to DJ for an alternative milonga at the
Montreal Neotango Festival. Tango music and dance is an endless inspiration to me and I look
forward to making the dancer's experience ”.

vlad chernenko
Vlad has been playing music since 2005 at milongas in Canada and Europe. His DJ-ing has been called "inspirational" by many dancers.
His choice of music is characterized by rhythm and melody, working together in harmony to create the richest and most rewarding dancing atmosphere. The goal of his DJ-ing is to enhance dancers' experience with inspiring music choices and smooth, yet dynamic music flow.
Each of Vlad's music picks is made right at the milonga and is always dictated by the energy on the dance floor and its fit with the previous piece.
Sound quality is another important property Vlad constantly seeks, by searching for optimal fidelity versions of old recordings and working on restoration of music pieces when necessary. His search for more gems to play at both traditional and alternative venues never stops.
